A special yoga retreat with Susan
Paros Island Luxury Yoga Retreat
Escape to the enchanting island of Paros, where ancient beauty meets modern luxury. This exclusive yoga and food awareness retreat, set in a collection of stunning, private villas overlooking the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea, offers the perfect environment for rejuvenation, reflection, and personal transformation.
The villas, nestled in the gentle hillsides of Paros, combine traditional Cycladic architecture with contemporary design. Each spacious villa is designed with minimal modern elements to provide you with a comfortable stay while immersing you in the beauty of the island.
Daily yoga practices will be held in a dedicated outdoor space, designed to harmonize with the island's natural beauty. As the sun rises over the Aegean, you'll be guided by Susan into a mat practice that will be both rejuvenating and restorative. There will also be a daily guided pranayama session that will thin down the usual 'inner noises' and lead to absorptive states.
In addition to daily yoga and meditation, the special retreat also includes mini workshops on food related topics. These mini workshops will help you elevate your food awareness so that you can make better food choices. On two evenings, you will have the opportunity to partake in the preparation of making delicious food together with local and in-season produce and catch. In between activities, feel free to lounge by the amazing pool on the property or pop out to check out the local villages or the pretty beaches.
Whether you’re looking to deepen your yoga practice, unwind in nature’s embrace, or positively affect your personal relationship with food, this luxury yoga retreat offers a unique and transformative experience. Step away from the hustle of daily life and immerse yourself in the beauty, serenity, and timeless charm of Paros Island.
The Premise
If you know me, you will know that I am almost as obsessed with food as I am with yoga. For the last twenty plus years, I have pretty much experimented on myself (much to the frustration of friends and family) with many kinds of discernment-eating ideas. And to make myself even more socially unacceptable, I started adding routine fasting (intermittent as well as extended) into my health protocol from 2012. It’s true that the types of food we put into our bodies are essential to our well being, but fasting, which is the act of refusing the admission of food (for a specified period of time) is equally important- especially in terms of enhancing the body’s self-healing qualities.
And how do I know what works for me? I go by how I feel. When I feel energized, clear headed, pain and blemish free, I know whatever I am doing is working for me. But change is imminent so whatever works now, doesn’t mean it will work forever. Continuous tweaking is necessary, but before tweaking is possible, a strong connection to our body and mind needs to be forged. This is where yoga plays a huge role. Yoga as taught at Manasa Yoga, is a practice about elevating awareness of self, of others and the environment of which we are in. It is about seeing what is happening to us, to our bodies, to our minds, and in the seeing, giving us the resolve to make necessary changes, no matter how challenging they are.
...& What’s New at this Retreat
At this retreat, along with daily movement and restorative yoga practices, I will be sharing about food and food related subjects but most importantly, I will be sharing useful insights and tools on how you too can connect better to your body and move towards feeling the best you possibly can. What will be different in this retreat from the one in the Maldives in 2024 is that we will actually be partaking in the procuring, the preparing and the making of food.
It's always been a desire of mine to lead a mat practice followed by a cooking class where at the end of the half day session, we will all sit at the dining table, eat the food we make together and have meaningful exchanges. I feel, for us to be able to assert more control over the food we take into our bodies, we really need to improve our relationship with and understanding of food; and what better way to do that than to have actual hands-on communal experience of food making, for two dinners at this retreat. We will be procuring local produce to make seasonal, simple yet delicious food together and hopefully this will inspire all of us to be more excited about making food for ourselves when we return home from this retreat.
Local & In-season
Local, in-season, freshly prepared and delicious food is what you can expect at this special retreat at both brunches and dinners daily. Though two of the dinners will be prepared communally (by us, together), 4 brunches and one dinner will be prepared by a private chef featuring seasonal and local dishes. On our final night together, after a day of sightseeing around the island, we will be dining at a highly rated restaurant at a nearby seaside village, basked by the last rays of the sun as it sets.
More on Accommodation
We will be staying in spacious bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms housed in Cycladic-styled white washed villas with a breathtaking view of the Aegean sea and the Bay of Paroikia. A Day of Sight-seeing around Paros
On the third day of our stay, after yoga and brunch, we will be heading out for a day of sight-seeing around Paros island. Highlights may be two cute villages we will be checking out which are Marpissa and Nauosa.
Marpissa is a picturesque white village on a hill with five windmills and winding narrow walkways. Marpissa's peaceful ambiance and historical sites make it a perfect example of Paros Villages. Naoussa, is a beautiful fishing village located in a huge bay in the northern part of the island. It is considered one of the prettiest villages in the Cyclades.
After checking out the sights around the island, we will head to Parikia village to catch the sunset and have an authentic greek dining experience at a highly rated local restaurant to end our final retreat night together.
The Santorini Extension Option
For those of you who can and would like to extend your stay and explore more of the Cyclades islands, we have negotiated a 3-night’s stay at a newly opened well situated boutique hotel in Santorini. Santorini is only a 90-minute ferry ride from Paros and it will definitely be worthwhile to visit! I will share more on the Santorini Extension with those who would like to join us.
For teasers, there will be a very scenic trail walk through cute villages to catch the sunset at the end of the day and there will also be a day on a catamaran. All optional. About Susan
Susan Kee Thulin has been a student of Guru Manoj Kaimal of Manasa Yoga (the premier yoga school in Malaysia) since mid-2002. She enjoyed her time as a yoga student in her early years at Manasa, but decided to take on the Manasa teacher training in 2007 upon the insistence of her guru. She was very grateful for the life changing experience that the 200-Hour Teacher Training with Manoj gave her, and it was during this time when her love for yogic philosophy got entrenched! She completed the Manasa 500 Hour Teacher training in 2010 and has been assisting Manoj in the Manasa teacher training programs as a mentor since 2011.
A resident teacher at Manasa since 2009, Susan is passionate about sharing and teaching how breathing and movement can be tools used by anybody to skillfully empower and positively impact their lives. She is convinced that yoga is therapy and was active in the assistance and teaching of therapeutic classes at Manasa from March of 2011 until late 2015 when it ended. She expanded her experience and service in therapeutic yoga by leading a small team of Manasa senior teachers in offering thrice-weekly restorative yoga to cancer patients in SOL KL from 2019 until March 2020 (then Covid happened!).
In January 2020, Susan was assigned by her Guru to go on a week-long stint representing Manasa Yoga, as a Yoga Philosophy teacher at the All Yoga Teacher Training in Koh Phangan, Thailand. Late February of the same year (just before Covid disruptions), Susan co-hosted her first yoga and fasting retreat where fasting and food wisdom as well as restorative and breath practices were shared with the fasting yogis. Susan has been organizing Manasa Yoga's annual yoga retreats since 2007, but the fasting retreat in 2020 was the first retreat she organized for herself. She enjoyed the experience of leading a small group on a yoga and fasting retreat and so in June 2024, she led another group of individuals on a luxurious Elevate Consciousness Retreat to the Maldives. The response to the first Elevate Consciousness retreat (essentially a yoga and food awareness retreat) was well received and so she promised the participants that she will run another in 2025. After months of searching for the ideal location for this special retreat, a lovely venue set in the Cycladic island of Paros was finally found. Susan looks forward to sharing about food and yoga at this upcoming Elevate Consciousness retreat in Paros and she hopes those who decide to come along will find the experience rewarding and useful. We could all use some elevated consciousness, whether on an individual scale or collectedly.
